ABOUT CHARLOTTE

WELCOME TO THE QUEEN CITY

Named in honor of the queen of King George III during the time of the city’s founding, Charlotte has maintained its royal status as one of the top, fastest growing cities in the United States. Also known as "Bank Town," this city ranks number two in the banking industry behind its leader, New York City. In the past ten years, Charlotte has recruited 6,790 new companies, 56,338 new jobs, and $11,020 million in new investments, and is consistently ranked among the best places for companies to thrive.

This city also ranks sixth in the nation in the number of Fortune 500 headquarters, with Bank of America, Nucor, Duke Energy, and Lowe's, to name a few. But for Charlotteans, it's not all work and no play, this modern southern city has emerged as a Top 10 "New Beer City," according to Forbes magazine, with more than 60 breweries and distilleries in the Charlotte area.

For those seeking arts and entertainment, it has 17 museums, the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, five major performance venues, and more than 100 symphony performances annually. For eager sports fans, Charlotte teams include the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, NFL's Carolina Panthers, AAA baseball's Charlotte Knights, and is the home of NASCAR.
